President, Mario Batres BS '05
Mario Batres graduated from Northeastern University in 2005 with a B.S. in Business Administration.
He currently works for Equifax Database Marketing, a direct marketing firm where he specializes in
direct marketing software. Mario has extensive experience in process improvement and project
management. Mario's interest for the organization include increasing SOLA member base and supporting
existing members. During his senior year, Mario was the Exective VP of LASO. His personal interests
include Real Estate investing and occasional fishing. Mario is married to Maria Arias.
Executive Vice President & co-VP (Technology), Roberto Cabral BS '08
Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Chelsea, MA, Roberto Cabral earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Computer Engineering in 2008. In addition, he minored in Technological Entrepreneurship.
While at Northeastern University, Roberto was a LaCLA Scholar and held a co-op position at Raytheon
Company where he later went on to work full-time. At Raytheon, he currently works as a Software Engineer,
and is also pursuing a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Leadership at
Northeastern (as part of the Gordon Engineering Leadership Program).
A former member of the LASO Executive Team (2006-2007) and LASO webmaster, Roberto's interests lie in
carrying out the duties of EVP, increasing membership involvement and updating SOLA's website. When he is
not working or attending school, he loves to spend time with his daughter and engages in community service
activities.
Vice President (Financial Affairs), Maria Fernanda Arias BS '07
Maria Fernanda Arias was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador. She graduated from Northeastern University in
2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Supply Chain
Management and International Business. Maria also minored in International Affairs and as undergrad
international student Maria was part of the Executive Board for the student organization "Proyeccion
Iberoamericana." Upon graduation, Maria started her career in The Adidas Group working for the Reebok Brand
in the Supply Chain Integration team for Latin America. Maria is interested in serving SOLA as the VP of
Financial Affairs where she will be in charge of managing the finances of the organization as well as
coordinating all fund raising initiatives.
Vice President (Administration), Nicole Boily BA '08
Nicole Boily graduated from Northeastern University in 2008, with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs
and a minor in Political Science. Most recently, she is in the process of going to school again to get a
Master's Certificate in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern's College of Professional Studies.
Nicole was born in Costa Rica but has grown up for the majority of her life in North Brunswick, NJ (exit 9 for
fellow Jersians). Nicole is not the traditional Latino student; she was adopted and has grown up with an Italian
mother and Irish father. This has allowed her to gain respect for her time in LASO and now SOLA. Nicole enjoys
traveling; she has studied abroad in Spain, Costa Rica, and Greece. In her free time, she scrapbooks and spends
time with her family and friends.
Vice President (Community Affairs), Ammy Cassiani BA '05
Ammy Cassiani graduated from Northeastern University in 2005 with a degree in Political Science. She was born in
Barranquilla, Colombia. She is currently the Operations Manager for the Boston Campaign for Proficiency which is
an educational and community initiative in the city of Boston to help K-12 students develop academic proficiency
and build strong character traits. Currently, she is running for the Vice President of Community Affairs position
for the new SOLA Committee. She is planning a SOLA community initiative around professional development and
hermandad with Latinos in the community. Her biggest accomplishment was to give birth to her baby boy Matteu
Magnus. During her free time she loves to roller blade and take Matteu to the park.
Vice President (Alumni Affairs), Jonathan Correia BS '08
Jonathan Correia, a first generation Cape Verdean-American from Boston, MA, graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his tenure as a student, Jonathan studied Mandarin Chinese for
six years, minored in Entrepreneurship & Small Business and was a Balfour Scholar. Professionally, he has a
background in Biomedical Engineering; having worked in R&D and Testing at various orthopedic and cardiovascular
companies within the Boston-Metro area. As an undergraduate, Jonathan was an active member in LASO and NUSTAND;
serving and leading in several committees and events. Presently, Jonathan is interested in serving SOLA under
the capacity of VP of Alumni Affairs to foster greater professional development of its members.
Vice President (Student Affairs) & co-VP (Technology), Dorian Manning BS '09
Dorian Manning graduated from Northeastern University in 2009, with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and
Business Administration and a concentration in Management. Dorian served as the webmaster for the Latin American
Student Organization at Northeastern. He plans to pursue a Master's degree in both Computer Science and Business
Administration and is currently working as a Web Developer for Business Innovation in Woburn, MA. Dorian was born
in Indiana, but was raised in the Boston area. His heritage is composed of Creole, Black, and West Indian
influences. Dorian is interested in serving as the VP of Student Affairs and co-VP of Technology for SOLA and
solidifying the connection between LASO and SOLA. When Dorian is not in class or at work, he is usually flying out
to see his family in St. Louis or spending time with the Boston Campus Ministry.
Vice President (Strategy & Operations), Sergio Marrero BS '07
Sergio Marrero graduated in 2007 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He is currently a Business Analyst at
Deloitte Consulting LLP. He has professional experience in manufacturing, project management, and portfolio
management. He is involved in local community development programs mentoring high school students and facilitating
workshops for the Metropolitan Career Center. A former member of the LASO Executive Team, his interest center around
establishing a clear structure for the organization and fostering a national network among Latino Alumni and current
students.
Ex-officio President, Jose Colon, AS '90
Jose is currently a freelance business development manager with el newspaper
in Boston. He is an award winning Account Management and Development Specialist
with success in applying telecommunications technology to support and improve
business services. His major strengths include account management and creative
problem solving, planning and coordination of customer services. Jose skillfully
identifies key factors that inhibit account growth and develops effective
solutions to overcome them and streamlines sales/marketing efforts to expand
business. His past companies include Broadview Networks and International Electronics, Inc.
He is also a strong community leader, especially in the Puerto Rican community.
Ex-officio Executive Vice President, Carlos Brussa BA '00
Brussa has more than 7 years of experience in the financial services industry. Before arriving at
Merrill Lynch, Mr. Brussa worked at different financial institutions around Boston. During
this time Carlos has taken measures to diversify his base of knowledge within the industry.
This includes retirement, education, and estate planning experience, which Mr. Brussa
provides for his clients. Mr. Brussa attained a Bachelors Degree from Northeastern in the fields
of Finance and International Business, and focuses his practice towards high net worth
individuals and small business owners. His process is to establish his clients' objectives and
current standing, create a comprehensive financial plan, implement solutions, and review on a
consistent basis, making changes and necessary. Aside from his role as a Financial Advisor,
Carlos also serves as a member of various Latino organizations and also participates in City
Year events around Boston.
Ex-officio Vice President, Minsu Blanca AS '94
Minsu Blanca is a Doctor of Physical Therapy at Hialeah Hospital and home health. Minsu has been
a PT for six years in Amsterdam, South Carolina and now her hometown of Miami, FL. Her specialty
is manual therapy. She received a Bachelors of Arts in Biology/Pre Med from Northeastern
University in 1994. In 1998 she was graduated with a Bachelors of Health Sciences from the University
Miami. Then she received a Masters in Physical Therapy and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from a
university in Amsterdam. She has already learned Italian and Portuguese and wants to also learn French.
Her dance classes have consisted of Ballroom, Flamenco, and Belly Dancing.
Ex-officio Vice President, Elvis S. Cordova CJ '98
Elvis is currently an Economist for the Office of Regulatory Policy at the Farm Credit Administration. He
collaborates to develop and write policies and regulations that govern the Farm Credit System. Performing
monitoring activities and producing independent research and reports, managing analysis of bank
restructuring projects and conducting information briefings and presentations for the FCA Board Members
and senior management are among his many responsibilities.
Previously he worked as an Operations and Management Planning Analyst for the City of New York's Department
of Parks and Recreation and an NYU Consultant for the United Nations Department of Economic and Social
Affairs. With many jobs and internships he has traveled to Brasil, France and Spain. He is a member of many
Hispanic and professional affiliations, including a board member of Juventud Pro Mundi. Elvis speaks Spanish,
Portuguese and French.
Ex-officio Vice President, Shannon Moran Jeulin BA '00, MA '04
Shannon Moran Jeulin is currently an Area Coordinator for Housing at The Catholic University of America in
Washington, DC. In 2000 she received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science with minors in Sociology
and Latino, Latin American and Caribbean Studies. In 2004 she received a Masters of Science in Applied
Educational Psychology with a concentration in College Student Development and Counseling. During undergrad,
Shannon held the LASO senate seat in the Student Government Association in 1997-1998, received the Diego
Enrique Viñas award for community service in 2000, and volunteered at La Alianza Hispana tutoring middle
school students after school in 1998-1999. Now in Washington D.C., she continues to work with students
through programming, leadership, and mentoring. Shannon is looking forward to working with SOLA to continue
making great traditions for the future generations.
Ex-officio Vice President, Yahaira Nunez AS '05
Yahaira most recently worked at the American Cancer Society as an Income Development Coordinator. There she
coordinated and facilitated office operations. She also orchestrated outreach and volunteer activities for
events to expand the Income Development Department of Brooklyn. She spearheaded the first ever Colleges of
Brooklyn Relay For Life for the American Cancer Society which brought together all the colleges of Brooklyn
for an event to raise funds and in a month we raised over 17,000 and as a result are in the process of
establishing three Colleges against Cancer chapters in the borough.
Previously she worked at Harvard Medical School for the Department of Ambulatory Care and Prevention as a
Financial, Research and Administrative Assistant. She was also an Office Assistant for the Latino Student
Cultural Center at our very own NU. Yahaira was graduated from NU with a BA in International Affairs, magna
cum laude, with a dual minor in Political Science and LLACS. She was also honored with a LaCLA scholarship,
the Terry Mena award and Dean's Honor Roll.
